Reliance Foundation’s ‘Mission Anna Seva’ is the largest free meal program by any corporate foundation globally.
Its purpose is to provide more than 3 crore food to marginalized communities and frontline workers during the lockout.
Reliance Foundation will provide free food and it built the country’s first COVID-19 hospital and supplied PPE and masks.
3 Karnataka districts to be part of ICMR study
3 districts in Karnataka will be included in a survey by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The survey will study the possibility of outbreak of Covid-19 virus in Indian population.
The ICMR will attempt to take random samples of people in 82 select districts of the country along with Bengaluru, Kalaburagi and Chitradurga.
Rare tortoise nest seen in Thailand
A large number of rare leatherback sea turtles nests were seen in Thailand’s now-vacant beaches amidst a novel coronovirus epidemic.
This number is the highest in two decades.
The world’s largest sea turtle, leatherbacks are considered endangered in Thailand.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists leatherback as a vulnerable species worldwide.
IIT-Mandi is developing developing magnetic RAM
Researchers at IIT Mandi are developing Magnetic Random Access Memory (RAM).
It is faster, more energy-efficient and capable of storing more information in a smaller amount than current data collection techniques.
The team claims that spin-transfer torque (STT) based nano spintronic devices will also eliminate computer data loss due to power supply interruptions.

Fitch forecasts India’s GDP growth
Fitch Solutions has cut India’s economic growth forecast for the fiscal year 2020-21 by 1.8 per cent.
For China, it revised its 2020 real GDP forecast to 1.1 percent from the earlier 2.6 percent.
Fitch Solutions also feared a deep contraction in fixed investment as businesses wanted to cut back on capital expenditure.
ARI Pune Develops “Bug Sniffer”
Researchers at Pune-based Aghar Research Institute (ARI) have developed a sensitive and low-cost sensor for rapid detection of bacteria.
The portable device can detect bacteria as small as ten cells with a sample size of one milliliter in just 30 minutes.
Currently, they are working together on a method for detecting and isolating Scherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium.
Uttar Pradesh government joins hands with Google
Uttar Pradesh has become the first state to use geo-tagging to end the food crisis.
The state government has linked community kitchens and shelters with Google to ‘Geo Map’.
The use of Google Maps will help the common man greatly.
It has geo-tagged its 7,368 community kitchens and community shelters in 75 districts that produce 1.2 million food packets a day.

New Chief Justice of Bombay, Meghalaya, Orissa HC
The Collegium of the Supreme Court has recommended the appointment of new Chief Justices in 3 High Courts – Bombay, Orissa and Meghalaya.
The judge of the Calcutta High Court, Justice Dipankar Dutta, was recommended for elevation as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
Justice Dutta will take over from the current Chief Justice of Bombay, Justice BP Dharmadhikari, who will retire from the post on 27 April 2020.

Rudratej Singh, Chairman and CEO of BMW Group, died in April 2020.
He joined the BMW group in August 2019.
He had more than 25 years of experience and held several leadership positions in both the automotive and non-automotive industries.
In his final assignment, he was global president at Royal Enfield and before that he worked with Unilever in India.
Odisha CM Inaugurates Five COVID Hospitals
In Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik dedicated five standalone COVID hospitals through video conferencing on 20 April 2020.
These hospitals will provide special treatment to COVID-19 patients.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister approved Rs 25 lakh
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has given assistance of Rs 25 lakh to all 28 districts of the state for prevention of COVID-19 infection.
A total of Rs 7 crore has been sanctioned from the Chief Minister Relief Fund.
These funds will be spent on essential resources, essential commodities and relief work for the prevention of corona infection.
Nagaland Chief Minister announced cash assistance
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has announced immediate relief to the distressed and stranded citizens outside Nagaland due to the lockdown.
The scale of cash assistance will be Rs 20,000 for a patient, Rs 4000 for a professional or working person and Rs 3000 for a student.
