SpiceJet Announced 20 New Flights

SpiceJet will launch 20 new flights on its domestic routes, including some services under the Government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), Udaan, from March 2020.

With the introduction of these new flights from 29 March 2020, the airline will have a total of 52 flights connecting 12 cities under the RCS scheme.

The new facilities will be functioned by Boeing 737-800 and Bombardier Q400 aircraft.

Nelco Launches In-flight Communication Service

Tata group company Nelco launched an in-flight communication service for airlines in India on 19 February 2020 in partnership with Panasonic.

Vistara has become the first Indian flight carrier to sign up for the IFC service.

Users can access the Internet and applications and e-commerce sites during the journey.

Navy Gets GRSE Anti-Submarine Ship

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE) delivered its fourth anti-submarine warhead stealth corvette to the Indian Navy on 18 February 2020.

Kavaratti was the last in a series of 4 anti-submarine combat corvettes (ASWC) built by Kolkata-based GRSE under Project 28.

Project 28, approved in 2003, is a class of anti-submarine warships currently in service with the Indian Navy.

Sanjay Kothari Will Be The Next CVC

Secretary to the President, Sanjay Kothari has been elected as the new Chief Vigilance Commissioner by a high-powered committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The board has also selected previous Information and Broadcasting Secretary Bimal Julka as the new Chief Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission.

Bimal Julka is currently serving as the Information Commissioner.

Three Experts Became Members Of NDMA

Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain has been appointed as a member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) along with two others.

Former Director-General of Coast Guard Rajendra Singh and Krishna Vats have also been appointed as members of NDMA.

Kamal Kishore, currently working as a member of NDMA, has been given a five-year term from 16 February 2020.

Ambala City Bus Stand Renamed

The Ambala city bus stand has been renamed after the late foreign minister and veteran BJP leader Sushma Swaraj.

Swaraj was born in Ambala Cantt and was elected twice as an MLA.

The veteran BJP leader died in 2019.

18 crore rupees were spent on the construction of the bus stand, where all basic facilities would be provided to the passengers.

India Becomes The 5th Largest Economy

According to a report, India emerged as the fifth largest economy in the world, surpassing Britain and France in 2019.

The World Population Review stated in its report that India is developing into an open-market economy from its previous self-reliance policies.

India’s service sector is the fastest-growing sector in the world with 60% of the economy and 28% of employment.

Two New Bird Species Found In Ladakh

In Ladakh, two new bird species have been found during the Great Backyard Bird Count.

A three-day exercise by the Wildlife Conservation and Birds Club of Ladakh concluded on 18 February 2020.

 Red-throated thrush and plumbeous water redstart have been found in the Ladakh region for the first time.

Common Rose Finch and Gray Aaron species have arrived in the Ladakh region sooner than normal.

National Level Tribal Youth Exchange Program

A 7-day 12th National Level Tribal Youth Exchange Program (TYEP) is being organized at Youth Hostel Nagrota from 18-24 February 2020.

Jammu and Kashmir Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez inaugurated the youth exchange program.

220 participants and contingent leaders from various districts of Jharkhand and Odisha are participating.

Odisha Government Presented A Budget Of Rs 1.5 Lakh Crore

In Odisha, Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari presented the state’s annual budget for 2020-21 with an outlay of Rs 1.5 lakh crore on 18 February 2020.

The minister presented a budget of Rs 1.39 lakh crore in 2019.

The Odisha government adopted a digital method of budget presentation for the first time to reduce paper printing.

FIFA Under-17 World Cup To Be Held In 5 Cities

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju launched a program in New Delhi on 18 February 2020 to unveil the five host cities for the FIFA Under-17 Women’s Football World Cup.

The tournament will begin on 2 November 2020.

World Cup matches will be held in 5 cities including Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Kolkata, and Navi Mumbai.

The final will be played on 21 November 2020 in Navi Mumbai

Sunil Kumar Won A Gold Medal

Sunil Kumar opened India’s account by winning a gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships in New Delhi on 18 February 2020.

He defeated Azat Salidinov of Kyrgyzstan in the final of 87 kg category.

Sunil Kumar reached the final with a 12–8 win over Kazakh rival Azmat Kustubayev in the semi-final bout.

Barry O’Frail: High Commissioner Of India

Australia has appointed former Prime Minister of New South Wales Barry O’Farrell as India’s next High Commissioner.

Mr. O’Farrell will replace Harinder Sidhu who has held the post since 2016.

Mr. O’Farrell served in the Parliament of New South Wales from 1995-2015 and as the 43rd Prime Minister of the province.

He has also served as New South Wales Special Envoy to India.
